Automobilist 1985 Where it All Began

Lotus 97T Ayrton Senna Estoril GP Fine Art Picture

Limited to just 500 Pieces WorldWide

Even before he made his Formula 1 debut with the Toleman team in 1984, it was clear to those in the sport that Ayrton Senna had a special talent. Just how special became clear in the second race of his second season, when he won the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix in the Renault-powered Lotus 97T.

In atrociously wet conditions in the race depicted in this Fine Art, it only took Senna about 15 laps to shake off all his pursuers, with what would become his trademark superiority in the wet, controlled yet quick, always in the highest gear possible to avoid wheelspin. By the end of the race, at the wheel of the black and gold Lotus, he had lapped the entire field at least once, with the exception of the second placed driver.

And the rest, as they say, is history!

There is not much extra left to say about Ayrton Senna that hasn’t already been said, written and described.

He will remain a true legend for time to come.

RESEARCH AND CONCEPT

Every image created is based on a real-life historic event. To ensure accuracy, extensive research is carried out. In-house concept artists, then, work up several visual ideas – using different views, settings, and perspectives – before a final design is settled upon.

PHOTOSHOOT

With pre-production complete, it’s time to go on-location and start shooting photographs. This stage can last for several days and involves crews of up to 70 people. The highest grade of professional equipment is used to ensure the highest quality and resolution images, and extensively detailed sets are also built when required.

3D MODELLING AND 3D SCANNING

Once the concept is established, a 3D model is created using computer-generated imagery. Studying every piece of reference material available, Automobilists’ artists, then, digitally rebuild the vehicle from scratch, slowly constructing layer upon layer with painstaking detail – even down to the last coat of paint.

COMPOSITION

The last step in the production process involves consolidating the digital assets to form the final artwork. In this phase, the 3D elements are rendered with the photoshoot imagery, and to this composite, additional elements – such as light, smoke, shadows, dirt, flames, and weather – are added, to bring the piece to life. Only with these details included it is time to print and frame.
